AU Background:
Shiki Ryougi does not exist in this world, nor has she ever - she will be born in the year 1725, almost 200 years in the future. The Ryougi line is known for producing deadly heirs with dual personalities. However, Shiki's older brother didn't have these traits, so he was deemed unsuitable to carry the family name, and that duty was passed on to her instead. She was trained in the family art of demon hunting, and became quite a vicious demon slayer very quickly.
When she was close to finishing her training and becoming the master of her family, though, there was a terrible twist of fate - Shiki was tricked into thinking she was a killer, and tried to take her own life. Indeed, she spent three years in a coma. When she awakened, one of her two personalities had died, but she had gained the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception in exchange. She became an even more deadly fighter after this tragedy, remembered most strongly for killing the corrupt mage Araya Souren. She lived well after her years as a killer, but that's a story for another time...
In the present, a man named Mitsunari joined the Grail War, attempting to summon as his Servant the original wielder of the blade Kuji Kanesada. However, there was a mistake, and the ritual instead summoned the blade's future wielder, Shiki Ryougi, as the Servant Assassin.
Personalities:
Shiki is a very complex individual, with a number of distinct personalities. Her 'primary' personality is Shiki, a serial killer... or so she claims. She is fascinated by death, and legitimately believes herself to be a killer, ut that's only because she was tricked into thinking she was one early in life. She hates other people, having known only darkness and rejection since she was a child. Shiki does everything she can to isolate herself, but she can never truly be alone. The reason for this is SHIKI.
SHIKI is a second personality inside Shiki. Unlike the poised, dignified Shiki, SHIKI is brash, easygoing, and identifies as male. SHIKI represents Shiki's repressed emotions - primarily, the urge to kill. Wanting nothing more than to reject these impulses, the only person Shiki truly wants to kill is SHIKI. She also wants to kill anyone that makes SHIKI want to surface, so that she can keep her unconscious suppressed.
When she was fifteen, though, something happened to damage the balance between Shiki and SHIKI. A serial killer managed to get Shiki to think that she was the one doing the killing, and she became unable to bear being both Shiki and SHIKI. To escape the confusion, she tried to take her own life, but ended up surviving in a coma - SHIKI died in Shiki's place. When she woke up three years later, SHIKI no longer existed. In order to fill the void left in her by SHIKI's absence, Shiki transformed, creating a third personality. The new Shiki has SHIKI's masculine crudeness and murderous impulses, along with Shiki's rejection of the world. It's much like SHIKI because it's Shiki's unconscious attempt to bring SHIKI back to life.
Despite her obsession with killing and self-identification as a homicidal maniac, Shiki has never killed another human being. The old master of the Ryougi family, her grandfather, taught her that a human can only ever truly kill once, and ever since then she's been looking for the one person she was meant to kill. She's come close to killing, and attacked people with killing intent, but she's never gone through with it. Making all this more complicated is the fact that, while Assassin manifests as the third Shiki, fragments of the old two still exist inside her. To help sort herself out, she now identifies them as Shiki (rejects the world and rejects SHIKI), SHIKI (rebels against the world and expresses Shiki's suppressed emotions), and Assassin (the third Shiki born from SHIKI's death). In other words, Shiki is her Super-Ego, SHIKI is her Id, and Assassin is her Ego.
Combat Style:
Shiki usually fights with a short, ordinary knife, using her incredible mobility to get in close for a lethal strike. As Assassin, her first Noble Phantasm is the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception - on anything that lives (even metaphorically), she can see the lines of death, along which anything can be cut to pieces. This includes abstract objects such as supernatural barriers - if it exists, she can cut it, and if she can cut it, she can kill it. Her second Noble Phantasm is her left arm, a nameless Phantasm in the form of an artificial limb. It has increased strength and durability, and has the supernatural ability to grab things from a distance.
He third and most dangerous Noble Phantasm is Kuji Kanesada, an ancient katana that she inherited long after the death of its original wielder. As a magical weapon, its rank is actually quite low - however, Shiki uses self-suggestion to alter her personality when she's holding a katana, increasing her mental sharpness and physical characteristics. Her effective offensive range is tripled when using this weapon.
